Sunny Perera is a Sri-Lankan American Director and Cinematographer based out of Dallas, TX. A renegade engineering student turned storyteller, Sunny’s approach to filmmaking focuses on the “why” in an attempt to explore what truth and emotions can be revealed within each frame.

In 2017 Sunny founded TAMARIND, a collective built by diverse filmmakers with the primary goal of telling new stories from new perspectives. “Stories that we did not see growing up on screens. Stories that reflected our own experiences and shaped who we are today while also being more connectable to the world outside our borders. Stories that had heart, honesty and reason.”

In addition to his background in narrative film, Sunny has also worked with major brands like Ford, Dr. Pepper, Coca-Cola, Frito Lay, Toyota, McDonald's, Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks and more.

Outside of filmmaking, Sunny is either entertaining his two cats, blowing out his knees skateboarding, or adding another roll to his ever-expanding collection of yet-to-be-processed photos. Currently, his goals for 2023 are to start production on his next 2 short films and create more projects in places outside the US borders such as Sri Lanka, Japan and Hong Kong.
